There are a number of concerns in the traffic safety marketplace regarding raw material shortages and significant price increases for pavement marking materials. Although Flint has experienced some dramatic price increases, we do not expect any material shortages. Therefore, lead times will remain the same and, as always, Flint will attempt to maintain its current price level.
Based on Flint’s research and direct knowledge, we can confirm that there is a severe shortage and sharp price increases (as much as double) for a number of key raw materials, especially resins. This shortage is having a dramatic effect on paint and hot-applied thermoplastic manufacturers. These manufacturers are being forced to put their customers on allocation, delaying product shipments by several weeks, and have indicated additional price increases are possible.
The raw material shortages and price increases are based on three key factors:
1.) Certain resin feedstock is in short supply due to severe weather, which resulted in a poor harvest.
2.) Some resin processing capacity was permanently eliminated as a result of the 2008-2009 economic decline.
3.) The increase in demand for a number of resins as the economy begins to recover.

♦ Flint has experienced very large raw material price increases; however, due to our advance raw material purchases, Flint currently is not experiencing raw material shortages.
♦ Flint will be happy to support your road marking program by supplying PreMark® or HotTape™ for some of your paint or hot-applied thermo needs. Additionally, Flint will continue its attempt to absorb the raw material price increases.
♦ Flint will continue to supply preformed thermoplastic products with the industry's shortest lead times.
